Tea for mothers and daughters at Chester church

The Hesterland Baptist church hosts a tea on Sunday May 18 at 4:00 p.m. sponsored by the Young Adult class with Rev. Harriet Louise Patterson speaking and organ music by Mrs. Thomas Butz Mrs. Fred Pollard and Laura LaMoreaux singing Mara Evans will give a tribute to mothers. No charge.

Plan Auction to Aid Chardon Swimming Pool Fund

Chardon businessmen plan a community auction and rummage sale in the square on Wednesday evening June 4 to raise funds for a swimming pool. Arthur Carlson chairs the event with Oscar Weinstein set to auction. The effort welcomes donations of valuables and “white elephants” from residents to boost the pool fund. The Chamber of Commerce adopted the venture and also hosts a traffic survey discussion sparked by the Cleveland Automobile Club.

Commander William J. Barnes announced Lawrence Seyer will chair the 1952 Buddy Poppy sale by Post 9678 in Middlefield with May 24 as the sale date. Seyer, a World War II veteran, served 3 12 years in the Army and spent 14 months in Europe.

Scouts Elect Officers for Coming Year

Geauga district of Boy Scouts of America held its annual meeting at Pilgrim Christian Church electing officers for the coming year. Glenn Maben will be district chairman with New Smith as vice and second chair, J H Carver as Hampden, Robert Fowler district commissioner, and district members at large W Earl Eggleston John Clark Wade Canfield Rev Charles Strong and Dave Perry. They take office July 1. Troop 93 Chardon earned recognition under Don Whitney. Nominating committee chaired by Henry Curtis nominations and elections guided by Harry H Hunter and Frank Jeffs. Meetings and fair participation dates set with June 18 as first combined meeting. Refreshments were served by Earl Vickers.

Chester Plans Rural Life Service at Community Church

The Community Church of Chesterland hosts two Rural Life events on Sunday May 18. At 9 30 a m Rev Harriet Patterson leads Hour of Work with Paul Shellhammer directing the choir and Mrs Russell Ruble at the organ. After WGAR radio broadcast at 11 a m the Grange and Four H clubs participate in Rural Life Sunday and the Soil Seed and Sowers dedication ceremony.

Lyman Collier, 23, will serve three to twenty years at Ohio State Penitentiary after pleading guilty to two counts in the Geauga County attack on a 12 year old girl. Judge William Thomas appointed Mark Sperry to defend Collier.

Mental Health Group Meets in Chester May 21

The Mental Health Society of Geauga County will hold its next meeting in the Chester School Auditorium on Wednesday evening May 21 at 8 o'clock. The public is invited. A panel discussion on making marriage a success features Rev. Charles Strong of Chardon, Attorney James Dinsmore and Judge Harold Richmond with Mrs. Doris Taylor as moderator. Plan Style Show at Newbury Church

A combined dessert luncheon card party and style show will be sponsored by the Newbury chapter of Geauga County Women's Hospital Association on May 21 at St Helen's church Newbury.
