Couple Is Honored on Anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. Frank W. Boorn were feted at the Golden Gate restaurant in Warren for their 48th wedding anniversary. Dinner guests included family, friends from Chardon Mesopotamia Washington and Middlefield, with gifts and a purse of money. A granddaughter and a pianist provided music as Mildred Cook photographed the event.

Polio Cases Rise in Geauga County

Geauga County reports ten polio cases with two new victims added by the Geauga Health Department. Names include Edwena Kosharke R D J Burton and James Schroth of Hemlock Point Road Russell. Only seven cases were in Geauga for all of 1951.

The 74th annual reunion of Luther Battles Sr. descendants met at Burton Fair Grounds on August 17. Democrats Blast Republican Monopoly in Geauga County

The Geauga County Democratic Party opened the fall campaign by accusing Republicans of a long held monopoly on local offices since the Civil War. Their platform calls for competitive elections, bi partisan governance, and reform measures including local business incentives, targeted tax expenditures, better cooperation among agriculture labor and business, and a firm stand against gambling. Newbury School Opens With Registration and Assembly

Newbury prepares for the 1952-1953 year with August 28-29 preschool registration for first graders, September 2 for student registration and an upper grades assembly, and a full day September 3. Plan Religious Service at County Fair

The Geauga County Fair Band will perform religious music at 10:15 Sunday August 31 at the fair grounds grand stand preceding the church service at 10:30 a.m. The Rev. Kenneth Peterson of Burton Congregational church will deliver the sermon. The choir under Ruth Morgan will sing and the Chesterland Men’s Quartette will provide special music.

Births seven marriages two deaths and many graduations noted at a gathering. Burton School Opens September 3 with Kindergarten Delayed

Burton schools plan to open September 3 for grades one through twelve while kindergarten starts September 4. Age rules require five by December 31 for kindergarten and six by December 31 for first grade. birth certificates or equivalent proof needed. The first day on September 3 is a half day for grades one through six and a full day for upper grades.

Geauga County citizens join a statewide committee to oppose a state constitutional convention. Arthur W. Hamilton announced 931 volunteers statewide will back a NO vote. Former Chardon Teacher Ernest H. Moore Dies

Graveside services for Ernest H. Moore 91 former Chardon teacher were held at 2 p.m. Friday in Drakesburg cemetery Portage County. He died after a long illness in a Toledo hospital Tuesday night. Born in Freedom he taught in Chardon Freedom and other Portage County schools and farmed. He was a member of Freedom Methodist Church and lived at the Elyria Methodist Home before moving to Toledo. Survived by sister Harriet Dudley and brothers Roy and Frank with relatives in Geauga County.

Maurice Fox to Attend Banking School

Maurice Fox executive vice-president of The First National Bank of Burton will leave August 24 for two weeks at the School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin Madison. This is his first year and the program runs three years with two weeks of resident sessions and yearly extension work in all banking areas.
