Supt. T. H. Edwards of the Utah-Idaho Sugar Co. positioned his men at the Garland factory Thursday. Campaign opened at 7 a.m. this morning as beets arrive in good shape and the big run begins in earnest with all activities reported in good order.
Amusements brief notes Peterson Bros Vaudeville Co staged two strong shows in Garland drawing praise for a skilled 12-member troupe. A fine band and orchestra accompanied moving pictures and illustrated songs, with performances that satisfied audiences both nights and promised a warm welcome on a return visit.
The Garland Opera House will present At Valley Forge by William J. Roberts on Saturday October 2, 1900. It centers on Col John Preston’s desertion, his daughter Virginia’s loyalty to Capt Wilford Fairfax, and a fragment of a love letter now held by the Philadelphia Historical Society.
Virginia Preston tale staged by Lunworth Spofford with Miss Anon Cleveland leading a capable company. The review praises romantic tension and period costuming while highlighting wartime scenes at Valley Forge and a bold duel ending Carleton’s career. Tonight's performance listed for October 2nd.
P. S. Checketts, a Salt Lake expert barber, will open a new barber shop before part of next week. The shop will be located in part of the building now occupied by Garland Harness Co.
An advertisement touts Dr Kings New Discovery as a top lung remedy, claiming it kills germs and cures coughs, bronchial inflammation, and hemorrhages. A testimonial from Dr Geo More of Black Jack NC says it cured hopeless lung trouble. Prices 50c and 1.00 with trial bottle offered.

Actions included shelter requests for Terrace horses, water issues at Plymouth basement, progress on new school houses, east Bear River wagon application approved, Williams Plumbing Co. bond accepted, contractor and architect reminders for early completion, Tremonton and Riverside schools updated, Brigham traffic and van duties assigned, Garland North van salary set at 30 dollars, High School gang purchase ordered, principal W S Hall resignation accepted, Portage building sale to Park Valley ward approved, Tremonton and Riverside estimates allowed, Jos H Palmer building inquiry noted, attendance rule set for early entrants and possible demotion for late entrants, adjourned to Oct 14.

J William Hardy of Provo brother of Albert Hardy collapsed and died at the Provo depot last Friday while talking with friends. He was about 60 years old and left behind a wife and thirteen children.
Residents from Brigham and nearby cities traveled to greet President Taft during his visit with the Salt Lake Commercial Club and seen passing through in a special car. Multiple residents reported glimpses as the Taft train moved at speed while crowds gathered to wave and shake hands in the city.
Mrs. Maud Samson hosted about forty Y. S. M. LL Association members with parlor games and a literary guessing contest won by Miss Vera Edwards. Recitations by Misses Alice Grover and Dessie Gleason followed, with refreshments. Mrs. Hazel E. Chapman received a surprise gift of tableware from the Stake Primary officers.
Bishop Capener presided at Sunday services with choir songs including High on the Mountain Top and Earth With Her Ten Thousand Flowers. Sacrament was administered by Elders Archibald and Johnson. Raymond Wallace was recommended for ordination to priest, and William T. and Ella A. Hudson were accepted as ward members. Speakers included William King Moroni Ward and Capener. Attendance 110, ward clerk Preston.
