Garland residents oppose western road change

Mrs Rowena Jensen presented a petition at the County Court meeting urging the County Commissioners to alter a road near her Point Lookout farm. She argues the change would divert traffic to Tremonton, harming Garland by increasing western traffic and making the mountain route easier while the lower road would deter Western visitors.

Struck by Lightning Hits Office of Jensen Bros

Peter Jensen of Jensen Bros. was writing letters when a bolt struck the office on Saturday afternoon. Lightning burned fuse boxes and split the Bell and Independent phones, saving him from likely death as the shock knocked him unconscious. Felix Baird and Luther B. Sasser, who were piling lumber outside, were also jolted by the surge.

Primary Convention Held by Bear River Stake Associations

A large Bear River Stake Primary convention met in the city last Sunday starting at 10 am. Stake Presidency and High Counsel, ward bishops, and Primary officers attended with Mrs. Margret C Hull of Salt Lake General Board present. The morning discussed the library question and reports. afternoon represented by most associations. Program featured Inox Haws on primary benefits, solos by Hazel Evans, Matilda Lillywhite on bishopric value, Dessie Gleason on systematic reports of children, duets by Chapman and Clark, remarks by P. M. Hansen, violin by M. D. Evans, and an address by Hull with Capener blessing. Evening missionary meeting moved inside due to rain. speakers Lawrence B. Smith and Felix Baird.

Mutual Fire Insurance Plan for Box Elder County Utah

At a Bear River Commercial Club meeting on May 8 a committee was formed to study the Mutual Fire Insurance Law and organize a Mutual Fire Insurance Co in Box Elder County. A favorable report at the May 22 adjourned meeting led to organizing the company with 55225.00 in property offered by twenty eight signers. The meeting in Tremont on June 1 at 1 pm will organize the company and elect officers and directors. Proxy by absent signers is requested.

Fire destroys Kennard home room. loss $300 in Riverside

A fire last Saturday night consumed J R Kennard s room and contents in Riverside causing about 300 loss with no insurance. Neighbors aided the effort as Mr Kennard injured his hand while trying to extinguish the blaze. The family plans to rebuild while guests and local notices fill the item list.
