Last Saturdays Baseball Cup Contested In Friendly Meet
Last Saturday the famous Nine of Fielding arrived with hopes to win the first cup game. Hingham’s Lowe and Ramshaw played while Garland’s team refused cups under those terms. A friendly match followed with lively play and strong pitching though a few wilds. Jersey and Garland’s pitcher allowed nine and seven hits respectively amid enthusiastic crowds. An early innings feature race between Ep Coombs and Ben Tlunsaker, for a purse of 859, saw Coombs win by an inch. another race later saw Ben take the laurals in 2 hours 45 minutes.

Street Grading Starts in Town Under Marshal Snook

New Maple Dance Floor At Garland Amusement Hall
A fine new maple floor was laid at the Garland Amusement ball this week. Dancers will enjoy a smooth surface though a canvas covering may protect the floor during meetings. A forge of men and boys volunteered their services to lay and finish the floor. The dancing public have reason to be delighted.

Town Board Meets in May Session at Town Hall
Town Board met at the town hall on Wednesday evening May 10 with all members present except Trustee Jensen. They considered complaints about minors entering saloons and procuring liquor while reporting improvements in sanitary conditions. The clerk was instructed to request removal of poles from Austin street center. An appropriation was approved to refer Grandstand and supply water to Park. Expenses for gravel pit and Main Street grading were approved and several bills allowed. They adjourned to meet on the first Tuesday in June.
