Lawmakers approved a measure in a stormy Thursday afternoon session with 39 yeas, 4 nays, and 2 absent. The vote records indicate a tight margin amid debate.
Miss Iva Parkinson of Brigham City married Mr B Showell of Stone Idaho at Brigham City county courthouse Monday. A reception hosted by Mr and Mrs F E King followed at their home with about twenty five guests. They plan to reside in Stone Idaho.
Justice Burdett Smith issued two rulings last Saturday. In Hoff versus Stark the plaintiff received $201.26 plus costs and a likely appeal or new trial. A motion by C B Foxley for B M P Co to set aside the Grover attachment on funds held by Utah Idaho Sugar Co. was overruled.
The case of the State of Utah versus C. H. Hales, scheduled for trial before Justice Hadley, Malad precinct, was compromised Sunday.
Mrs Ethel Lewis hosted the Ladies Self Culture Club at her Prest home with fifteen members present. Bertha Campbell chaired and Essie Be Foulger attended as guest. Readings included Tennyson and a Salt Lake speech on Prohibition, followed by a High Altitude Cook Book note and a current topics session.
The Globe lauds the Bothwell Dramatic Co for a fine home production of The World Ages Him at Garland ball last Saturday night. Amateur cast includes Jerry the tramp Gerid Watson and banker Matthew Lee with Mrs Lee and Mrs Maud Dewey among leads. Between acts Miss Linzie Barnett and Mrs A A Nichola supply piano solos for the benefit of the Bothwell meeting house.
The Foote Stock Co presented Wife in Name Only to a packed house and earned praise for its acting and the band. The company will return Friday Feb 12 to Smithfield, with another two night run at Garland hall Feb 26 and 27, drawing local audiences.
The National Stock Company played Garland Opera House on February 10 and 11 to well filled houses. The company offered The Hills of Nevada on Wednesday night and A Double Life on Thursday night, both praised as pleasing and successful. Neighbors were urged to attend to get their money’s worth.

A meeting of the Portage Ecclesiastical Ward members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Box Elder Utah will be held February 18 1909 at 2 pm at the Ward Meeting House. The agenda includes authorizing transfer of all real property to the Portage Corporation and the election of two directors to fill board vacancies. Enoch Harris president and William H Gibbs secretary signed February 4 1909.

A. R. Capener presided with choir singing The Happy Day has Rolled On and How Great the Joy to. Sacrament by George Henrie and Peter Ross with Reverently and Meekly Now. Mrs. R. L. Ed mond Carroll stars in the title role in We Are King at the Gar and Amusement Hall on Friday evening February 16. Carroll, aligned with Whiteside productions, plays Venner and the mad king Ling with magnetism and rapid changes. Manager A. W. Cross has built a cast around Whiteside originals. date February 19 is noted.
