Farewell Reception For Mrs. J. T. Roberts In Utah Move

Mrs. J. T. Roberts, departing today for Fairview Utah, was given a surprise farewell by the Ladies' Self-Culture Club at her home. Members arrived in costumes representing characters from Lady Washing to Mother Grimes. A photo would make a funny Globe page. Nuts candy and oranges were served as regrets at parting with her society. Under Utah-Idaho Sugar Co. auspices a pleasant reception followed at the Factory Hotel. A detailed social report will appear next week.

Death of Mrs. Amanda Johnson in this city

Amanda Johnson wife of C A Johnson of this city died at her home Thursday morning at 3 o'clock from pneumonia after about ten days illness She came here from Salt Lake City two years ago leaving a one year old baby and a sorrowing husband survive Her death follows two prior wives in six to eight years Funeral services were held at the hall yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock with a report to follow next week.

The Globe's New Home Remodeling Project

Over two weeks Jack Layton with J M Simpson and Kirt Brown remodeled the Globe office. They tore off plaster planned and sawed creating a twelve foot addition. Interior finishes include ceiling lumber and a cylinder press, aiming to make the Globe second to none in Box Elder county.

Arbor Day Proclamation Urges Statewide Observance

Governor William Spry issues a proclamation urging Utah residents to observe Arbor Day on Thursday, April 15, 1909. The notice calls for tree and shrub planting, public grounds beautification, school ceremonies, and citizen participation to promote forest growth and civic beauty.

Glen Bros. piano contest declares 957 as correct date number

Judges ruled 3,700 contestants shared equal interest in the piano after determining 957 was the correct date number. Prize winners will be notified by mail in a day or two.

Bear River Valley Fruit Growers Form in Tremont

The Tremont meeting on March 20 1909 organized the Bear River Valley Fruit Growers Organization. Directors Mor ons Mortensen Clarence G Adney Henry Seeger Walter Green and Jno W Larson elected. Mortensen named President Adney Vice President Seeger Secretary Green Treasurer. $1500 stock subscribed to start. The group will handle apple boxes and materials for fruit packing and marketing in Bear River Valley.

Sunday LDS Service Under Capener Leadership

Bp A R Capener presided with Sing Ing performances and prayers led by J F Devay. Olaf Johnson and Ludvig Larsen administered the sacrament while Alicea B Welling and J J Hawks were accepted as members and three babies were blessed. W L Grover and Wm Moss of the High Council spoke. Capener gave closing remarks, singing, and the benediction was offered by F D Welling.

Brigham Man Promoted to Ogden Bank Cashier

James B. Halverson, longtime cashier of the State Bank of Brigham City, has been tendered and accepted the cashiership at Ogden State Bank and will relocate to Ogden to assume duties soon. Assistant Cashier W. T. Davis will fill the Brigham City vacancy, bringing extensive banking experience and broad connections.

Bear River Stake Conference Dates Set for April Weekend

In Tremonton Utah R D No 1 Ind 47 n 2 Fridal advertises plants priced at 10c each for lumbard poplar and 20c for virginian creeper. The Bear River Stake quarterly conference is scheduled in this city on Saturday and Sunday April 10 and 11. Alice infant daughter of Mr and Mrs Willard K Welling of Fielding died March 28 at 2 p m of spinal meningitis. Funeral services were held at the residence Monday afternoon. Ward choir members sang and speakers F J Walker F W Richards and M H Welling addressed the attendees. Among mourners from this city were F D Welling and family Miss Alice B Welling and Mrs Mark Leavitt.
