October snow cripples Northeast power grid and flights
A October nor’easter blanketed the Northeast with up to 27 inches of wet snow, leaving more than 3 million homes and businesses without power across Maryland to Maine. Nine deaths were blamed as states of emergency were declared in several states. Bridges, rails, and flights were disrupted, while hundreds sought warmth in shelters. In Connecticut, over 800,000 lost power and Gov. Malloy warned of long outages as residents adapted with generators and improvisation for Halloween plans.

Physicist backs mainstream warming after skeptic years
Washington AP reports Richard Muller, a leading physicist once skeptical of climate warming, finds data shows temperatures rising 1.6 F since the 1950s. Backed partly by Koch Foundation funds, he confirms mainstream NOAA and NASA figures and notes the need to cut fossil fuel CO2. He presents four papers at a Santa Fe conference.
