Finney County Sets 2015 Legislative Platform Outline

Finney County Commission reviewed its 2015 legislative platform without changes, calling it a discussion tier. Key items include fixture tax exemption and opposition to expanded tax exemptions for machinery and equipment, plus advocacy for local officials to participate in the legislative process. The panel may also push for a tax review of oil and gas production methods and a possible repeal of severance tax in favor of production-based taxation. Next, the Kansas Association of Counties policy may influence Finney’s priorities. A $150,000 loan for Cornerstone Metal Recycling was approved from the county revolving loan fund, with matching funds from multiple sources, to help buy and outfit a plant at 1724 Lincoln Road, Garden City. The project aims to create 10 full-time jobs, with a 6 percent five-year loan and shared liens and insurance requirements.
