Brownback agenda criticized by bipartisan coalition in Kansas
A trio of moderate Republicans and three Democrats formed Reroutetheroadmap.org to oppose Gov. Sam Brownback's Roadmap for Kansas. They blame tax cuts for revenue shortfalls, cuts in services, and rising property taxes as districts struggle to fund schools and local governments. Ed Flentie, a former cabinet member, backs their claim that policy failures have worsened fiscal stability.

Housing plan could affect Victor Ornelas Elementary
USD 457 board discussed a new 386 home development near Jennie Barker Road and Spruce Street proposed by Amro Lamy. To improve storm water drainage, developers would acquire 36 acres north of the school for a widened ditch and new drainage system, with landscaping and a $10,000 land purchase offer. Officials plan to invite the developers and city representatives to a future meeting to resolve drainage rate questions.
