Gordon Bassham of the Western Kansas Broadcast Center said KIUL 1240 AM was off air from about 5:15 to 8:15 a.m. due to tower equipment problems, switching to a telephone link while repairs proceed. Nine other stations remained unaffected. KIAL expected back on air before Friday’s Garden City High School game against Liberal.

McCauliffe Named Finney County Maintenance Director
Tim McCauliffe of Garden City will start November 4 as Finney County maintenance director, replacing retiring Louis Mendoza who has held the post since 1977. The job oversees 13 staff and maintenance across county buildings including the Health Department and Law Enforcement Center. Mary Regan of the Finney County Historical Society says a 2 by 3 foot bronze memorial plaque will be built west of the Valley View Cemetery office at 2901 N Third St. The plaque honors John and Ciddie Stevens James Fulton William and Lettie Fulton and Charles Jesse Buffalo Jones and his wife Martha as town founders buried there. The plaque and base cost 2300 dollars and will be installed by year end weather permitting as part of a joint project with Southwestern Bell employees and the city of Garden City.
