Sabbaticals offer pastors a break from burnout
Evansville Indiana AP reports Walnut Hill Mennonite Church pastor Steve Thomas in Goshen Indiana won a 29950 Lilly Endowment sabbatical grant for next summer. He plans to travel with his wife and three children to trace Pauls journeys in Turkey and Greece and visit Mayan ruins while the congregation gains pastoral coverage. The program awards up to 30000 annually to ministers for rest and renewal with limited structure and supports addressing clergy burnout across Indiana with plans to expand later outside the state.
