A Titan missile launch officer, 2nd Lt. Christopher M. Cooke of Richmond Va, faces trial on charges of visiting the Soviet Embassy in Washington without reporting the contacts. He faces up to two years hard labor, loss of pay, and discharge. Cooke is held at McConnell AFB after being charged for violating reporting rules on contacts with a communist country. Sources say he visited the embassy three times between December and May while under surveillance. The case has been referred to the Justice Department for possible additional charges.
