The Garden City Family YMCA launches Exercise by Faith emphasizing Christian values in the YMCA. Each weekly class includes a devotional warm up, weights, cardio and games, followed by discussion. Adults meet Mondays and youth Wednesdays at 11 am, monthly sessions starting in June, fees 20 or 40 dollars, contact Steven Lynch at 620-275-1199.
The Garden City Fiddlers Pickers and Singers will perform at 5 p.m. Saturday at the Senior Center of Finney County 907 N 10th St. The free old style country music program invites would‑be performers to sign in. A carry in supper runs 6 30 to 7 30 p m followed by more music until 9 p m.
Ad Astra Out West hosts Hillside Sessions at 3319 North VFW Road as part of Beef Empire Days. More than 20 bands perform Saturday and Sunday from noon to evening with mixed rock folk country acts. Wristbands cost 10 in advance 15 at the gate with profits benefiting Ad Astra events. Local artists sell work and Garden City Arts offers kid activities.
Gov. Sam Brownback spoke with Republican lawmakers and business lobbyists as he signed House Bill 2233 to guide Kansas in meeting federal carbon emission mandates. The act directs KDHE and the Kansas Corporation Commission to work with a new oversight committee while pursuing delays in adopting a plan and resisting EPA rules critics call an intrusion on state affairs.
