KDHE hires man charged with murder to work in Topeka lab
KDHE hired a Missouri man, Johnathan Mango, via a temp agency to work in its Topeka laboratory after he was charged with first degree murder in the death of a decade ago, a case tied to his then girlfriend’s son Eli Clemens. KDHE officials say he was a temp worker, not a direct employee, and background checks by the agency are unclear. Community and state officials criticize hiring practices, noting safety and privacy concerns given the lab’s sensitive testing for newborn screenings and disease surveillance.
