Forteo and Prolia Osteoporosis Treatments Discussed
Dear reader asks about Forteo for osteoporosis after Fosamax. Forteo (teriparatide) is a parathyroid hormone variant that stimulates bone formation and is given by needle injections. FDA requires a warning due to rare bone cancer signals in animals, but human cases show benefit. Prolia, another option, is an injection twice yearly and may better suit some patients. For amiodarone concerns, risks include lung toxicity and possible switch to alternatives such as Multaq. Vitamin B-12 matters only if deficiency is present. other B vitamins do not substitute for B-12 in dementia.
