Protesters rally at Capitol over Brownback policies
The Rev Sarah Oglesby-Donegan led a MoveOn.org rally at the Capitol with about 75 participants to condemn Gov. Sam Brownback’s education, welfare and budget priorities. An unofficial recall petition signed by 38,000 was delivered to the governor’s office. Protesters cited cuts to K-12 funding, pension and highway concerns, and broader inequities, while lawmakers faced a four day break before returning to tackle a $406 million deficit.

Kansas Highways Patrol must pay inmate medical bills
The Kansas Supreme Court ruled the Kansas Highway Patrol must cover medical costs for an indigent arrestee treated for injuries after a high speed chase. The unanimous decision holds the enforcing agency responsible when custody is with that agency at the time medical treatment is sought, reversing older county liability rulings.
