Kansas Tightens DUI Penalties and Ignition Locks
Gov Bill Graves signed a law boosting DUI penalties in Kansas. The measure raises fines from 200 to 500 for first offenses and higher scales for subsequent convictions. It mandates ignition interlock devices and permanent license revocation after a fifth failed test, with jail terms and aftercare programs for repeat offenders.
New DUI Penalties Applauded by Finney County Officials
Finney County criminal justice officials praise stiffer DUI penalties as a deterrent. Sheriff Bascue notes longer jail terms and higher fines will push drunken drivers off the streets, and Captain Utz cites education about the laws as key. Second offenses face up to 1500 dollar fines and 10 days in jail, while third offenses reach 2500 dollars and 120 days.
