Pronghorn Move East Into Lane County Kansas Fields
In Lane County Kansas pronghorn antelope are appearing in larger numbers on local farms, a departure from their western range. Farmers like Vance Ehmke and Van Hanks report herds up to 17, with some years seeing more babies. Wildlife biologist Matt Peek says movements are likely isolated, tied to good rains and reproductive success, and they may retreat west again. A hunting season is listed with archery, muzzle loader, and firearm options in several counties including Lane.

Legislature approves guard family death benefit in Kansas
Kansas legislators quickly pass a bill granting 250000 to families of National Guard members killed in combat and send it to Gov. Kathleen Sebelius who plans to sign. The measure, a temporary fix, faces possible future ideas such as state funded life insurance. Three guardsmen have died in Iraq with over 1400 others there. Sebelius cites Kansas backing those who serve. The plan was pushed on the Legislature's closing day after prior House inaction.
