Kansas Legislature approves Guard death benefits increase
The Kansas Legislature approved a $250000 death benefit for families of all Kansas National Guard members killed in Iraq or other combat zones. Senate President Steve Morris called it the right move, while some lawmakers raised questions about the bill. The measure, likely to be signed by Governor Sebelius, expands beyond the earlier $125000 per death plan and draws funding from the emergency fund in the next fiscal year.
