Fast track plan for state veterans cemetery sparks costs and delays
Officials warn that fast tracking the 25 acre Fort Riley area veterans cemetery could raise construction costs and complicate logistics by enabling early burials in late 2007 while delaying full buildout. The plan would open the front section first with about nine burial plots, requiring deeper graves and multiple bids, as the Kansas Commission on Veterans Affairs weighs final approval. Other state cemeteries are WaKeeney Winfield and Fort Dodge.
