Wheat feeding boosts beef cattle efficiency says Kansas State expert
Kansas State University notes by Brethour of Fort Hays ranch show feeding wheat can improve cattle performance and cut costs. Wheat provides high energy, digestibility, and easier processing with 30 to 50 percent in finishing rations reducing feed intake by about 10 percent without sacrificing gains. Recommendations include finish before cattle, avoid fine grinding, complete mix, limit to 40 percent of total ration, and 35 days to full feed. Also tips on home garden tomatoes and general extension guidance appear in the issue.
