Rain soaked region with gradual drought relief ahead
A slow moving storm drenches southwest Kansas bringing widespread rain and light snow possible late Wednesday, with a sunny 61 degree Thursday and dry Friday. Officials say the soaking rain will ease drought and reduce fire risk for months, though some roads flood in Five Points Garden City area and Kansas Avenue construction from Main to Third continues through April 20. Local officials urge caution on flooded intersections and note the Gulf moisture fueled the unusually even regional rainfall.

Senate OKs KanCare expansion amid debate and costs
The Kansas Senate approved HB 2044 expanding KanCare to about 150,000 more residents amid concerns over an estimated $81 million impact on the state general fund. Supporters argue it saves lives and creates jobs, while opponents warn of high costs and uncertain federal funding. Senators and advocates from both sides cited votes, with comments from Sen. Oletha Faust-Goudeau and critics like Sen. Caryn Tyson.
