Kansas board chair eyes invite for Betsy DeVos
State Board of Education chair Jim Porter says he may invite U.S. Education Secretary Betsy DeVos to Kansas to show how schools are expanding choice through diversified programs. Porter's remarks come as the Trump administration proposes cuts and vouchers. Watson cautions the visit could become politicized and should be apolitical. He plans meetings with DeVos and others to hear her views while protecting current funding and programs.

Turmoil in Sac and Fox recall drive targets Green Jensen Keller
Patricia Gutierrez of the Sac and Fox Nation says she filed petitions with 50 signatures to recall chairman Edmore Green along with James Jensen and Nancy Keller. Green refused to accept the petitions, citing missing originals, while executive director Kevin Burnison referred questions to Green who asked for time to respond. A prior recall effort at Reserve last August led to a district judge's temporary order vacating recalls, ruling lack of proper notice violated the tribal constitution. Gutierrez later acquired signatures she claims prove the recalls, noting the board members had received certified mail notices.
