Farmers Rally in Topeka Pressures Lawmakers
A Topeka rally drew about 500 farmers on the Capitol steps to press for farm economy relief. Groups including the Kansas Coalition of Farmers and Labor, Kansas Farm Bureau, and other unions and centers planned further lobbying and a dinner for legislators. Governor Carlin and lawmakers heard calls for policy action, mortgage relief, parity legislation, and tariff controls to aid farming amid the 1985 farm crisis.
