Hearing set for accused veteran in Topeka case
A disabled Army veteran, Ryan Newell, faces charges of felony conspiracy to commit aggravated battery and five misdemeanors. His preliminary hearing, moved from Thursday, is now scheduled for March 31 in Sedgwick County District Court. Newell, an Marion resident who lost both legs in Afghanistan, was arrested after detectives found his vehicle outside Wichita City Hall while five Westboro Baptist Church members met with police inside.
