Nebraska Bostwick Irrigation District votes to sell water
The Bostwick Irrigation District in Nebraska voted 172 to 14 to sell its 2006 water allotment on the Republican River to Kansas for about 2.5 million dollars. The sale aims to reduce potential penalties for water-use violations, which some estimate could reach as high as 15 million. Passage depends on state lawmakers approving a new budget to fund payments to the irrigators.
