Cake Decoration Class To Begin At County Fairgrounds

Garden City homemakers invited to a 1:30 p.m. cake decorating class at the county 4-H building. Mrs Kathyrn Sughrue, county home demonstration agent, announces the first class of the year. Mrs J D Adams will cover basic decor using heart, square, and round cakes and demonstrate using real and artificial flowers. Afterward, attendees will sample the cakes with coffee.

Juco Debaters Fail To Place At St. John's Invitational

Garden City juco debaters failed to reach the finals at Winfield in the St. John's Invitational. A team led by Joy Jungferman and George Mangan was eliminated by Oklahoma City University in the second round, with OCU claiming first place. Other Busters teams, Rus sel Birkle with Dick Near and John Robinson with Frank Davis, did not advance from preliminaries among twenty colleges and six junior colleges. Kansas City Star Sports Writer Dies at 50

Keneath J. Hegarty, 50, longtime Kansas City Star sports writer and desk man, died last night from a blood infection. He joined the sports staff in 1923, moved to the city desk in 1943, and served as director of the Kansas City chapter of a barbershop quartet singing society and editor of its bi monthly newspaper.
