De Anda pleads guilty in Deerfield murder case
After more than two years in custody Garden City teen Joaquin De Anda 19 pleaded guilty in Finney County District Court to first degree murder in the December 2008 killing of Julia Quintana 16 of Deerfield. Rape and sodomy counts were dropped for the plea. Sentencing to be set after a state hospital evaluation. Prosecutors seek the Hard 50 sentence life without parole until 50 years. De Anda was 17 when the crime occurred and was certified as an adult. The defense noted the evaluation for the pre sentence report.

Director Phil Hoke works with a three person crew to finish the original stage musical about Buffalo Jones. Auditions occurred in early June with a partial cast, four and a half weeks to stage build. The set includes a train engine, dugout, barn, shop, porch and chuckwagon with multimedia elements planned.
