Miners Trapped Reach Surface After 14 Hours in Cave-in
In Steubenville Ohio a group of seven miners were rescued after more than fourteen hours trapped in a horizontal shaft 150 feet underground. A 230 foot auger bored into the hillside created the path to safety as rescue workers and spectators watched. Holcomb Names Dave Williams Principal of Holcomb Schools
Dave Williams, formerly of Garden City and a former junior college dean and psychology teacher, is named the new grade and high school principal at Holcomb consolidated schools. He studied for a doctorate at Colorado University after leaving Garden City about two years ago. Williams succeeds Ray Salmon, who becomes principal in Phillipsburg. Virgil Volland, Holcomb superintendent, announced the appointment. Williams spent seven years in Garden City schools and taught psychology at a local junior college before moving to Colorado. In Boulder he taught during the first semester of the 1986 57 term, and Volland has often substituted as high school principal this past year.
