First Wheat Rolls in Midget Harvest Opens
Finney county farmers have started the annual harvest on the wheat crop. The run is expected to be brief and light in volume. J. We Acktey, three miles west of Garden City, hauled the first load to the Gano Elevator yesterday. Kiowa variety, irrigated, yields about 45 bushels per acre with a 60 pound test weight and 16.4 percent moisture.

Five Miners Trapped In Ohio Slope Mine Collapse
Five miners were trapped when a hillside slope mine collapsed at Powhatan No 2 Mine in Fernwood about 14 miles southwest of Steubenville Ohio. Three escapees said lights shone on the caps of the trapped men as air reportedly circulated. Efforts to drill in with an auger continued. the five men named Fred Sabol Hank Horvath Kenny Hamilton Joseph Supinski and Martin were identified among the trapped.
