Finney County six member GCCC board, elected by residents, governs with four year terms. Starting July 1 two incumbents begin new terms, one seat changes hands as Della Brandenburger leaves and Jeff Crist joins, with a new farmer minister trustee incoming.

Four students from southwest Kansas earned Dean's Honor Roll at Southwestern College Winfield for the spring term. Shelby Cue Kayla Gollhofer Molly Komlofske and Taylor Kinnamon posted GPAs of 3.7 or higher. Simon R. Bolding of Garden City received an outstanding senior award from Kansas State University Mech and Nuclear Engineering faculty after graduating with a 4.0 GPA. He will intern in Schenectady this summer and begin graduate studies at Penn State in the fall.

Linda Bilberry of Garden City High School FFA will represent Kansas at the National FFA Convention in October after winning the 2011 State Extemporaneous Public Speaking title. She qualified at district and competed in the state extemporaneous speaking contest in Manhattan on June 2. she will be a junior at GCHS.
