Rules for Drinking Water During Flood Conditions
The Finney County Health Dept issued instructions for safe water in flooded areas. Do not drink without boiling five minutes unless steps are followed. If the well is damaged, call a qualified well drilling contractor to repair. If undamaged, pump until clear, add 16 ounces of laundry bleach per 1000 gallons, and let stand 12 hours. Calculate bleach by well casing size and depth, example given for a 200 foot well with 2 inch casing. After treatment, pump to remove odor and flush taps. a slight chlorine taste is not dangerous.
