USD 457 Budget Clarification Amid Brownback Claims
Garden City USD 457 officials push to separate budgeted spending from actual expenditures after Gov Brownback criticized the district for rising costs. CFO KJ Knoll explains districts budget to exceed expected spending, with patterns showing annual budgeted increases around 9.5 percent since 2011 and actual spending rising about 2.8 percent. The district awaits a 15 year budget summary to be released in July and notes ending balances around 10.8 to 11.3 million. The governor’s office declined further comment.
