Rural Kansas hospital bucking trend by expanding care
Benjamin Anderson, CEO of Kearny County Hospital in Lakin, notes ED visits rose 45 percent and inpatient days 126 percent since 2005 while clinic visits grew only 21 percent. A survey found many came to ED for non emergencies due to lack of primary care, prompting expansion of clinic services to keep patients well and out of hospital.
