Wing opens new patient tower at St Catherine Hospital
The new 14,000 square foot tower adds two identical floors with 32 private rooms per floor and two large nurses stations per level. Rooms are 40 percent larger with near bullet proof windows and private baths, ADA compliant, climate controlled, and feature bedside computers and state of the art beds. Four rooms include linear lifts for bariatric or paralyzed patients, and iso‑filtration rooms aid isolation patients. Funding totals 9.5 million dollars from the hospital foundation and operations revenue, with patient moves starting Sunday.

Harvest sees limited wheat yield amid drought and hail
The Kansas Wheat Harvest Report notes severe drought and a late hail storm have struck the wheat crop. Jason Lueck of United Prairie Ag estimates only about 20 percent of a normal harvest will be taken across nine locations. Yields in Grant County range 5 to 25 bushels per acre with test weights about 60 pounds and protein near 18 percent. Harvest expands north of Ulysses, with several counties just beginning. The report marks day eight of the 2011 harvest and confirms widespread expectations of smaller crops statewide.
