Osawatomie State Hospital seeks federal recertification soon
Osawatomie State Hospital plans to notify the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services of its intent to recertify after renovations and staffing improvements. The hospital, which lost Medicare certification last fall following a patient assault and other lapses, now operates 146 beds of a 206 bed license and faces renewed scrutiny over staff shortages, overtime, and funding. KDADS officials and union leaders say relations with the agency have improved under Secretary Tim Keck and the Kansas Organization of State Employees, with continued moves toward restoration of federal funding and potential privatization bids awaiting recertification.
