County settles with Bonanza BioEnergy over property tax overcharges

Finney County Commission approved a settlement paying about 1.7 million dollars to Conestoga's Bonanza BioEnergy LLC for overcharged property taxes from 2011 to 2014. Four payments total 1,562,157 in principal plus roughly 150,000 in interest, following a 2015 Kansas Board of Tax Appeals ruling. The dispute stemmed from asset classifications under a 60 percent tax abatement begun in 2008 and production starting in 2007.
