Stanton County farmer Bri an Peterson says 2,500 to 3,000 acres of wheat await harvest as heat and 20 mph winds dry the crop. He cites last moisture in August 2001 and estimates irrigated yields at 40 to 50 bushels per acre, with dry land possibly 20. This is the worst crop since he began farming 11 years ago.
