Venus flytraps sold from City jeweler hobby lab
A jeweler in a Main Street shop grows Venus flytraps via tissue culture to accelerate maturity from five years to about fourteen months. Gipson uses a laminar flow hood to keep cultures sterile and produces clones for wholesale to vendors in California and Texas, plus occasional in-store sales. He explains the plants lure insects with nectar, trigger hairs seal prey, and digestion occurs in a sterile environment. He notes soil purity is key and describes the hobby as a paying but non rich pursuit shared with his son and wife.
