Wheat harvest underway in southwest Kansas fields
Wheat harvest is beginning in southwest Kansas with farmers and harvesters cutting in fields this week. Ken Jameson of Garden City Co-op notes one load of wheat at each location though moisture remains high and some cut near Dighton. Test weights around 58 to 60 pounds, with harvest gains expected next week.

Garden City man dies after Wichita hospital motorcycle crash
John Beckstrom, 37, who suffered a head injury in a late May motorcycle crash, died at Via Christi in Wichita around 1:49 a.m. He was found at the Taylor and Jenny intersection and later flown to Via Christi after treatment at St. Catherine Hospital. A memorial poker run planned for Aug. 11 will proceed as a tribute to Beckstrom and his family.

Officials consider mausoleum ordinance at Valley View Cemetery
Valley View Cemetery officials seek to revise rules after city commissioners granted a waiver for a large mausoleum. Sexton Kelly Stevenson urged updating codes to permit future similar structures. the proposed 15 by 20 by 15 foot tomb would hold eight or more bodies, with landscaping plans for the entrance.

Shada Brazile 33 of Decatur Texas designers the Wrangler Western infant All American Baby line after eight years as a Wrangler trend forecaster. She is married to 16 time world champion Trevor Brazile and competes as a barrel racer in the WPRA.
