Southwest Kansas shows off rapid growth on rural farms
Visitors from six nations toured the Ora Martin farm near Kendall, viewing the one room shack and newer red brick home as examples of progress in Southwest Kansas. Tim Kantor and his father MacKinlay Kantor discussed a forthcoming book on rural life, to be published by MacMillan. A cargo of cattle stalled on Cimarron tracks required lifting and pushing to clear the double decker trailer. Darwin Bollinger, Scott City, was severely injured when his pickup ran over him after he jumped to chase a stray calf. A hail and wind storm damaged Stanton Morton counties with crop and building losses and a downed television tower injured Sam Hume near Walsh. Venice’s wooden piles of eight inches per century sink into mud.
