Southwest Fiddlers to Meet at Memorial Building in Lakin
The Western Plains Chapter of the Kansas Old Time Fiddlers Pickers and Singers will hold its monthly program Sunday at the Memorial Building on Main Street. Sign-up begins 1 30 p m with performances 2 to 6 p m. All area musicians are welcome and the public may attend free. Refreshments will be served during the break. Tax shortfall in May risks Kansas budget
TOPEKA AP Figures from the Department of Revenue show Kansas collected 613 million in general tax revenues in May, 51 million below the expected 664 million and 7.7 percent under forecasts. Without a June rebound, the 2009 fiscal year starts with slimmer cash reserves and possible spending trims. Senate committee chair Dwayne Umbarger calls the situation a free fall.
