Arkansas study shows high child obesity in public schools
Forty percent of Arkansas public schoolchildren are overweight and about 22 percent are obese, with 58 percent normal weight and 2 percent underweight. The cross sectional study, covering 276,000 of 450,000 students, comes as state officials push obesity as a top issue and remove vending machines from elementary campuses.

Michael Hatfield, 54, nearly drowned when he used a garden hose as a snorkel to search 30 feet underwater in Longview Lake for car keys lost on Memorial Day. A rope spotter pulled him to safety. he was not treated and plans another dive with a diver Thursday.
