The Commodity Credit Corp. faces a dwindling treasury with only 1.2 billion left to fund farmer price supports this year. It previously required nearly 2.85 billion and has suffered over two billion in losses from below cost sales and donations in 22 months. A Senate-bouncing Agriculture Department bill would reimburse part of these losses to finance this year’s obligations.

Soap Firm Cleans Up In New Haven Post Office Row
Postmaster Frank A. Lattanzi estimates the Post Office Department did at least 5000 dollars worth of work or delivered 70000 free bars of soap to New Haven residents. He says the soap mailed from Cincinnati as free samples at 3 cents a bar. He notes handling costs run 10 to 12 cents per bar. Last year the office faced extra work and losses delivering 69000 free bottles of aspirin and 69000 toothpaste samples.

Propose New Office Building for White House Complex
A 32.35 million plan seeks razing the old State War Navy building west of the White House to erect a new presidential office block and expand grounds. The West Wing would be remodeled for visiting dignitaries while a new executive office building rises across Pennsylvania Avenue. Congress already approved a building there, but approval for this broader plan faces a dim outlook amid economy concerns and House opposition from Rayburn.
