Death of Retired Businessman Samuel E. Alsop at 74
Samuel E. Alsop 74 of 1107 Gillespie Drive died Monday at St. Catherine Hospital after a month long illness. A former owner of Alsop Land Co and farmer, he was born December 3 1906 in Wakefield and moved to Garden City in 1949 from Sublette after WWII service. He was a Kansas State University graduate and married Eulalia Madge Wright June 11 1943 in Sublette. Survivors include his wife two sons Ted and Dr William Alsop a brother Edward Alsop and one grandchild. Funeral 11 a.m. Wednesday at Phillips White Funeral Home with burial Valley View Cemetery. Friends may call until service time.

Drag race crash injures passenger near Main Street
Santos Flores, 23, was treated at St. Catherine Hospital for shoulder and leg injuries after a car driven by Procopio Vargas collided with a truck at the Main Street Santa Fe crossing. Witnesses tied drag racing at about 60 mph to the crash. Vargas faces speeding and drag racing charges.
