Kansas farmers abandoned 1.2 million acres of planted winter wheat this season yet quality remained solid despite drought freezes and rains. Federal and state officials said about 3 to 4 percent of the crop is likely animal feed, with a forecast of 313.2 million bushels, down 35 percent from last year. Updated tests from 4,214 samples across 51 counties show at least 49 percent graded No 1, below last year’s 73 percent, but overall still export and milling grade.
