Advocates Push for Kansas to Match Federal Wage Increase
Advocates led by Carla James pressed for Kansas to raise its state minimum wage in line with the federal increase to 7.25 by 2009. They cited 19 000 Kansans earning under federal rates and warned higher poverty, infant mortality, hunger, and uninsured rates unless state law changes. Some business groups and legislators support revisiting the current 2 65 rate, while others oppose increasing the state minimum.
