Corn growers rally to defend ethanol mandates at Capitol Hill
Ness County farmer Dennis McNinch joined nearly 300 corn growers on Capitol Hill urging the EPA to sustain Renewable Fuel Standards. They argue ethanol boosts rural jobs and prices, while the agency seeks to cut mandates by about 4 billion gallons in 2015 and 5 billion in 2016, citing infrastructure and feedstock concerns. Kansas has 12 ethanol plants and production supports about 183 million bushels of corn and sorghum, with $750 million paid to farmers in 2010.
