Push to add farming to student loan forgiveness program
The National Young Farmers Coalition pushes to add farming to the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program. The plan, HR 2590, would forgive after 10 years of regular payments for farmers meeting active farming and loan repayment criteria. Rep. Chris Gibson backs the bill, while Kansas Rep. Tim Huelskamp signals consideration as budget reforms emerge. Lindsey Shute of the coalition notes the need for 100000 new farmers to sustain domestic food production. The proposal targets an aging farming population and seeks a self reliant, secure food system.
